Santa Barbara celebrates our working harbor and the fruits of the sea this year on Saturday, October 9th with the Santa Barbara Harbor and Seafood Festival. It's the opening of the lobster season, and there will be fresh caught lobster, prawns, crab and seabass for the eating. Live music will enliven the atmosphere. Also, this year we'll have cooking demonstrations on, what else? seafood!
While you're at the harbor, take a tour of the Maritime Museum, one of Santa Barbara's lesser known treats.
I'm told that boat tours of the harbor are also available, some on active fishing boats. In past years, the Coast Guard has taken folk aboard one of their vessels. You can also visit the Tall Ship schooner, Spirit of Dana Point, here to celebrate with us and let your imagination soar over the waves. The Maritime Museum says that you can actually take a sail on the Tall Ship, Spirit of Dana Point, on Sunday, the 10th. Contact them for more details.
