St. Patrick's Weekend Beer Tasting

Well, it's over and we had a great time at our beer tasting event last night.  Warm (we had a fire going in the fireplace) and dry, listening to the rain outside and a little Irish music, we sampled 3 local beers all of them from award winning breweries: Island's Hefeweisen, Telegraph's White Belgian Ale and Firestone Walker's Oatmeal Stout.  The quality of the beer, chosen by Nate Galeano, our beer expert,  and his presentations about them,  made it fun and informative.  Our international offerings included Estrella's Daura (gluten free award winner) and Smithwick's by Guinness.  Learned that craft beers (as in microbrewery) should mostly be consumed within 3-6 months of bottling and that seasonality matters (eg Firestone's Oatmeal Stout is a winter oriented brew).  So if you like it, buy it now.  Almost made me want to get a home brew kit (flashback to my early twenties - scary!)  I can't wait to see what we'll have in the Summer when we bring Nate back (popular request).
